Celebrating 3 years at Automattic

Wow, it’s hard to believe I’ve been at Automattic for the years already! It feels like it was only a month ago I first joined the Woo Mobile team to help build the first ever Android app for the WooCommerce product. Our team has poured thousands of hours into research, design, coding and testing and we’re all immensely proud of how it all turned out and we’re not done. We continue to polish, reimagine and add new functionality. I feel so incredibly blessed to have been a part of such a wonderful team.

Change is in the air however, and it’s time to move on to new challenges. On January 4, 2021 (next week! 😮) I’ll be moving to a new team to work not only on a completely different product, but with a new language as well! I’ve spent the last 6 weeks learning JavaScript and React in preparation for moving over to the Mobile Gutenberg project where I’ll be working with React Native to assist in the ongoing effort of bringing the powerful WordPress Gutenberg Blocks to the Mobile apps!! In fact, I’m writing this post using Gutenberg in the WordPress app on my Pixel 5!

I’m super excited for the challenges ahead and also absolutely terrified. It’s been a while since I had to learn a whole new language, tools, frameworks, etc, and being a newb is not my happy place but I’m up for the challenge. I’m really going to miss my old team. We have so many amazing memories together and I count them all as dear friends and an extension of my family. They even made me this going away present:

Here’s to new adventures!
